THE TIRE TRACKS

BY THE MEMBERS OF THE TEXAS AREA A RETREADS
MOTORCYCLE CLUB, EDITOR BILL O'BRIEN

Events discussed for the camp out are Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast at Wolf Creek and Saturday night dinner at the Holy Smoke in Huntsville. There will be some day rides on Saturday.

A couple of more people reported on Sturgis. Pete Soullas had "camper horror" when he went to Sturgis, even so, he claims he had a "Blast!". What happened, not much, the lights went out when he was in the shower due to an inverter failure. Ok, so you can take a shower in the dark, Right Pete?. Nada, the hot water heater on the camper also blew up due to a propane leak. All in all, Pete told the story in good humor.

Jim Riley also told us he went to Sturgis this year. He was roughing it at the Holiday Inn in Rapid City. He told us the story about chasing some pretty girls out of the hot tub that he was using. Claims his swimming trunks filled up with air from the water circulation and released emulating, well you know, Jim passing gas. Seems like the ladies were quite horrified and quickly left the hot tub.

The other comment about Sturgis 2000. "Just too many people".

Okay, Joan Connor had the winning ticket for the 50/50. Jack Thomas hit both door prize tickets winning a Retread patch of his choice and a Retread T-shirt. Congratulations to the winners.

John Laurence said he would be volunteering to lead the ConCan ride again this year, (at least that is what I think I heard). Tentative timing for the event is November 1, 2000. Please use your phone list and call John about info as the date draws nearer.

Chuck Ehrlund said he would be throwing a birthday party for himself to be held at a church located at 345 Piney Point which is off I-10 and near Memorial Drive on Saturday November 4, 2000. He will have eats like fajatas, etc. and will be between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Chuck will be getting a flyer together for this event. If so, look for it in your November newsletter.

After the meeting I saw Dave Beverly getting a work out by pushing down on Tim Hollingsworth's new V-Star handlebars. Do we need to take up a collection for Dave so he can go to the gym instead? No, Tim's bike was making a funny noise. Found the problem and Tim fixed it. (Now that wasn't so bad, was it Tim? ;) )

Monthly Meeting Review
By Bill O'Brien

The main discussion during the September meeting was centered around; "Where we are going to meet for monthly meetings?". The meeting committee consisting of Vince Hefley, Ed Malone, and Tim Hollingsworth gave a report and review of three places that were considered as alternatives to the Dinner Bell Cafeteria. Ed Mallone reviewed Hickory Hollow, Vince Hefley reviewed  Frankie B Mandola's Steak and Burgers and Tim Hollingsworth reviewed the Golden Coral. They did a great job on their reviews and public speaking. To make a long story short, the membership at the meeting decided to have our monthly meetings at Hickory Hollow in the future. Directions to Hickory Hollow located else where in this newsletter. Thanks again to the meeting committee for investigating these new sites for us, the membership.

Hey, hey, is it time for a campout? Dave Beverly announced that he had reserved some camp ground sites at Wolf Creek for our annual campout. The campout was another topic of discussion in our September meeting. I believe Pete and Camille Soullas and Ed Malone and Joan Conner have already put dibs on two of the campsites. We discussed that the campfire will require wood. If you have some wood suitable for a campfire, I'm sure we could use it. Ed Malone, Pat Dupuis and Pete Soullas said they will bring some with them. Chuck Ehrlund said he had wood available but no way to get it up to Wolf Creek. Based on Wolf Creek Documentation, the following fees apply:
